URP 3D Sample deep dive webinar: Lighting techniques

Lighting tells a story, influencing everything it touches in your game, from the look and feel of your environments to how players interact with and explore them. Great lighting sets the tone, while a poorly optimized lighting setup can cast a shadow on the player experience.

The Universal Render Pipeline (URP) in Unity 2022 LTS comes with major improvements for creating beautiful lighting that performs well across platforms. To help you leverage the benefits, we’re jumping back into the URP 3D sample project for a learning session on lighting techniques.

On Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 12:00 pm ET / 9:00 am PT, join Maxime Grange, senior technical artist at Unity, for a webinar covering the latest lighting features in URP. Using the URP 3D sample project as a demonstration environment, Maxime will cover key concepts and workflows including:

  • How to use real-time vs baked lighting, direct vs indirect lighting, and diffuse vs specular lighting
  • Editor tools like lightmaps, light probes, reflection probes, ambient probes, environmental lighting, and post-processing
  • Visualizing lighting data using the scene debug mode and the Rendering Debugger
  • More lighting tips and tricks for working with light cookies, Lens Flares, Forward+ Rendering, and more
  • Adaptive Probe Volumes (APV), a new lighting feature coming to URP with Unity 6

This session will last roughly 45 minutes, followed by Q&A. We look forward to seeing you at the event.
